September 9, World First Aid Day. 'Cardioprotect' to live

General

Like every second Saturday of the month of September, World First Aid Day is celebrated, a day that was born from the initiative of the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the world.

The objective of this day, which has been celebrated since 2000, is to promote and disseminate first aid practices and techniques so that citizens have basic knowledge in the event of an emergency, that is, so that they can save a life.

First aid is considered to be the techniques and actions applied primarily and immediately to an injured person, in the same place where the injury occurred, so that they can be kept alive until they are transferred to a health center.

These are very delicate moments in which you must remain calm, immediately contact the emergency services, offer support and company to the affected person and not mobilize them, unless the situation requires it.

Some of the basic first aid techniques are well known, such as CPR, or cardiorespiratory resuscitation, which consists of chest compressions and rescue breaths, to restore circulation. The Heimlich Maneuver is also known, for cases of asphyxiation, and consists of quickly pressing on the patient's abdomen by placing the arms around the waist of the affected person.
