April 18, European Patients' Rights Day
In 2007, the Network for Active Citizenship and a series of patient citizen organizations from all the countries of the European Union began to promote the celebration, every April 18, of a European Day of Patient's Rights, with the aim of remembering the importance of respecting and protecting the rights of all patients.
This date was established by the European Charter of Patients' Rights, drafted in 2002 and based on the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
The fourteen rights included in the Charter attempt to guarantee a high standard of human health and ensure the high quality of services provided by European National Health Systems. These are the following rights:
1. To an appropriate service to prevent the disease
2. To access the health services required
3. To information about your health status
4. To consent
5. To the free choice of procedures and suppliers
6. To privacy and confidentiality
7. Respecting your time _
8. To comply with quality standards
9. To security
10. To innovation
11. To avoid unnecessary pain and suffering
12. To a personalized treatment
13. To claim
14. To compensation
The European Charter of Patient Rights, and especially in Spain Law 41/2002, of November 14, Basic Regulatory of Patient Autonomy and Rights and Obligations in the field of Clinical Information and Documentation, have represented an important regulatory change that highlights respect for the person and, therefore, for the patient's autonomy as a fundamental value. This Law focuses attention on the desire to humanize health services.
At Fraternidad-Muprespa we are committed to respecting and protecting these rights, and we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that all patients receive the medical care they deserve, with respect, dignity and quality. We work every day to offer a close, humane and efficient service, ensuring the health and well-being of mutual members, to whom we provide information about their rights through various communication channels, as well as in the Patient Guide and the Hospitalized Patient Guide.
