Fraternidad-Muprespa, at the conference "Managers and responsibilities in construction works"
Organized by the Social Justice Foundation, the meeting took place both online and in person, and was held at the Foundation's headquarters.
After the welcome of Eva Torrecilla, director of the Social Justice Foundation, it was the turn of Mar Morales, director of the Department of Prevention and Health Culture of Fraternidad-Muprespa, who presented the conference “Prevention in construction: the blind spots that prevent us from moving forward.”
Morales recalled that construction is one of the most important sectors of activity in our country and contributes significantly to generating wealth and employment. However, it is also one of the activities with the highest risk of suffering workplace accidents, and despite regulatory development and technological advances, the number of victims in workplace accidents is “overwhelming.”
It also showed the figures for fatal accidents at work, specifically during the day and by economic activity, and put the number of work deaths at 55 in the period January-April 2025 in the sector.
Morales broke down the multiple factors that motivate this high accident rate and advocated for a proposal for comprehensive change with the implementation of practices to promote safer work environments
"This change does not require an effort in economic terms, but rather a new approach to prevention, new health and safety management strategies, moving from reactive prevention to proactive prevention, and a series of actions aimed at the people who make up the organization. Everyone has a key role in the safety and health of the team and must become a key piece capable of promoting the preventive culture that is required in the sector," he highlighted.
Next, the round table “Theory and practice in construction works” was held, in which María Dolores Donoso, from the Regional Institute of Health and Safety at Work; Amaya Segovia, Social Graduate, representing Rehabilitaciones y Construcciones Tudic SL; Miguel Ángel Molero, ORP technician at the Construction Labor Foundation, and Jose Luis Saludas, from the Occupational Health and Safety commission of the General Council of Official Colleges of Social Graduates of Spain, which concluded the day by emphasizing the importance of involving all levels of companies in the prevention of occupational risks.
