What preventive activities do mutual insurance companies carry out?
According to the criteria established in article 82.3 of the consolidated text of the General Law of Social Security, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 8/2015 and Royal Decree 860/2018 of July 13, they carry out a series of actions, with the aim of controlling and, where appropriate, reducing work accidents and occupational diseases of Social Security, through the following activities:
- Technical advisory programs , primarily for SMEs and companies in preferred sectors, which will include visits to associated companies in which the circumstances established each year in the legally established application and development standards occur.
- Business advisory programs or concurrent activities . In workplaces where workers from two or more companies are present, including contractors and subcontractors, or self-employed workers, one of whose companies or one of whose workers is associated or attached to the mutual insurance company, respectively, the mutual insurance company must inform and advise the companies and self-employed workers involved on the application of the existing means of coordination for the prevention of occupational risks.
- Dissemination program of the “Prevención10.es” service, or service that replaces it , by holding sessions for associated companies with up to 25 affiliated workers and self-employed workers, in order to inform them about the functionalities offered by said service, which waives the protective action of Social Security, and to show them its use. Mutual societies may request, for the development of this activity, the collaboration of the National Institute of Safety, Health and Welfare at Work, O.A., M.P., in its capacity as the body entrusted by the Secretary of State for Social Security with the direct management of the service. In the event that the latter lacks availability of means in the different places and dates, the program will be developed directly by the mutual company's staff.
- Advisory program for SMEs for the adaptation of jobs and structures for the readaptation of injured workers or with pathologies of professional origin.
- Program to advise on the control of the causes of the incidence of occupational diseases and work accidents .
- Program to control and reduce high accident rates in companies , for a period of between 1 and 3 years, to act on the number of accidents, their severity in the cases and on the group determined in the application standards in response to accidents.
- Preparation of studies and analyzes on the causes of workplace accidents and dissemination of the conclusions and recommendations obtained from them to avoid incurring in the situations that cause these accidents.
- Collaboration with the Social Security administration in maintaining the information, notification and registration system for occupational diseases, as well as in the development of evaluation programs and updating the list of those diseases.
- Preparation and dissemination of codes of good practices for the management and continuous improvement of prevention in the company through the development of activities that may be established each year by the legally established standards of application and development.
