Fraternidad-Muprespa participates in Córdoba in a day against workplace accidents of the Board

The celebration of this day is part of the Shock Plan against occupational accidents in the region, promoted by the Junta de Andalucía and the Andalusian Council for Occupational Risk Prevention and has the collaboration of Fraternidad-Muprespa, as well as important entities involved in occupational road safety, such as the General Directorate of Traffic, AESLEME or Infova. 

The day was inaugurated, before an audience of fifty attendees, by Inmaculada Rufián, Provincial Director of The latter highlighted that according to the Delta System (Electronic Declaration of Injured Workers) more than 11% of accidents with sick leave take place due to traffic, and added that "one in three deaths is due to traffic, a risk with serious consequences when injuries occur." He also highlighted the role of the Mobile Unit through which the Junta de Andalucía will be raising awareness among Córdoba companies starting next Monday, April 8.

Rufian, for his part, emphasized the interest and concern that traffic accidents at work represent for the Mutual Collaborator with Social Security. "Mobility is a right that we all have and must be increasingly safe, healthy and sustainable. We can all suffer an accident as a pedestrian, passenger or driver of a vehicle, both while traveling and on mission." It also offered data on the accident rate of the mutual companies in the province from 2021-2023: the 455 road accidents occurred involved more than 17,000 days of sick leave and an estimated cost due to temporary disability of more than 730,000 euros.

With Modesto Román, Head of the Training, Information and Statistics Area of the Center for Prevention of Occupational Risks, as moderator of the event, Piedad Sánchez, Provincial Head of the General Directorate of Traffic, then intervened, presenting the 2030 road safety strategy and assured that the DGT “endorses two major global and European objectives: to reduce 2030 by 50% compared to 2019 figures, the number of deaths (1,755) and serious injuries (8,613)”.

Rafael Portero, consultant for Occupational Risk Prevention from Fraternidad-Muprespa, emphasized in his presentation “Park distractions while driving” that “human beings cannot do two things at the same time, but they can try to understand them to improve our attention. full.” Portero highlighted interaction with the mobile phone as the most recurring distraction, both while driving and for pedestrians. 

Later it was the turn of Alfonso Ruiz, AESLEME delegate in Córdoba, who summarized real stories that show that society usually minimizes the perception of risk. He also described what it is like to live with a serious injury after an accident and the need for “social and administrative support.” He also pointed out that craniocerebral injuries are increasing due to accidents with electric scooters, "which can reach speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour." 

Finally, Sergio Quesada, Head of Training at Champions for Safety, reflected on the need for awareness and training, “two important concepts, because the majority of drivers have not received it again after obtaining their license.” He also explained that in their training methodology they try to address occupational road safety from a positive and participatory point of view.  Training in road safety from the company leads to better drivers, passengers and pedestrians in society,” he concluded.

As a conclusion to the day, emphasis was placed on the need to develop measures related to driver awareness and the application of the General Traffic Regulations, as well as the implementation of safe and sustainable mobility plans in companies, to qualify for aid in prevention of occupational risks which is annually convened by the Junta de Andalucía.
