Fraternidad-Muprespa: twelve years of Equality Plans to help women victims of violence
Twenty years ago the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution that designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. He invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to take sides on this issue and coordinate activities each year on this date, so that the entire society becomes aware of its importance.
Fraternidad-Muprespa, as it has done with other campaigns and initiatives of very important value for society as a whole, endorses this UN initiative, always in solidarity with social conscience, because in our DNA, and even our name, is the "social" concept.
The figures are very alarming and eloquent. To date, only two in three countries have banned domestic violence, while 37 states still do not prosecute rapists if they are married or later marry the victim. Additionally, in 49 other states there is still no legislation protecting women from domestic violence.
In Spain, so far this year, 41 women have been murdered. One is under 20 years old, four are under 30 and ten are under 40. A total of 64,000 live with protection, 400 women are at high risk and 13 at extreme risk of dying at the hands of their ex-partner. Here you can see the awareness material created by the Ministry of Equality.
Fraternidad-Muprespa, strategically and corporately aligned in the fight against this scourge, established its Equality Commission in 2008
This commission launched the I Equality Plan. Both this one and subsequent ones have always had the presence of workers' representatives, establishing a framework of action for the equalization of opportunities.
After the majority implementation of its actions and its validity ended, Fraternidad-Muprespa prepared the II Equality Plan, for the period 2015-2017. We are currently living our Third Plan, 2018-2020, which includes a diagnosis of the current reality taking into account the starting situation, twelve years ago.
And this reality is that
Likewise, they also have priority in granting workplace transfers and granting loans, provided that the cause that gives rise to this request derives directly from trying to remedy the consequences of situations of violence. Furthermore, absences or delays due to episodes of gender violence, justified by Social Services, Public Health Services or the competent Authority, will not be subject to sanction or negative assessment in the employee's performance evaluation report.
It is our way of contributing to equality and commitment to the eradication of this scourge. The entire society and the individuals that make it up have the right, by the mere fact of existing, to live in a society with the capacity for action and reaction in the face of injustice and vulnerability. For this reason, Fraternidad-Muprespa says (and will say) NO to violence against women.
