José Luis Benito Bermejo, president of the CGS of Segovia: training is not important, it is essential
José Luis Benito Bermejo___ is a social graduate from the University of Salamanca and a graduate in Labor Relations and Human Resources from the University of Valladolid. It also has rich complementary academic training in Social Security, Labor Law and Occupational Risk Prevention. From 2004 to the present he serves as president of the College of Social Graduates from Segovia. In this interview we will delve into your professional career and your direct relationship with the School.
___When and why did you choose a liberal profession? You start working for the company COSOFT Consultores and a few years later you set up your own consultancy, what led you to make this decision?
I always had a concern for the world of labor law, and I liked knowing the laws and responding to problems, which led me to consider that I should be a liberal professional.
The fact of setting up my own office is determined by my way of being, because I like to do things myself way.
And this is more difficult when you work within a work team, so I decided to set up my own work team and do things the way I thought they should do.
___Currently entrepreneurship is one of the pending subjects in our country, but people find obstacles and above all fear in taking this step. What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business? Tell us what you remember about the beginning of your business adventure.
First of all, what an entrepreneur has to do is carry out an economic study of the activity he is going to carry out. This is essential for the viability of the business to exist. And later, it will need a lot of enthusiasm, dedication and effort, since the beginnings of any business are not easy.
I, for example, remember my beginnings that were difficult, with many hours of work and personal sacrifices, but this, as I have already said, is essential, because in the end, it is about a new company establishing itself in the market, to which will have to fight to get its space, and this, without a doubt, requires a lot of effort. However, I remember my beginnings as something nice, because it is always pleasant to see how your business grows little by little.
______You have held the position of president of the College of Social Graduates of Segovia since 2004, during that time in addition to holding the position, you have been a professor of different courses and you have combined it with the work of your own consultancy, how do you get to everything?
Well, the key is to organize your time well, as well as giving up doing other things, but it is true that both carrying out responsibilities in my professional school, and teaching, are two things that I am passionate about and I enjoy them a lot, which it helps a lot.
___In your resume we can see that you have many training courses. Do you think that continuous training is important in your sector?
I think it is not important, but essential. We work with regulations that constantly change, and even more so in these times, which means that in order to carry out our work professionally it is essential to live in constant recycling, which is achieved with continuous training.
___How does the College defend social graduates? Could you comment on the advantages of joining?
The School defends social graduates by having an institutional presence before the different Administrations with which we interact, signing collaboration agreements with them, and transferring to them those issues that must be improved,
The school is more than all this, because it should not be forgotten that a professional school is a public institution, protected by law, and that it is the exclusive property of certain liberal professions that require greater control of the exercise of the profession. profession of its members, since the Association is a guarantor that its members provide a good professional service to its clients.
This function is very important.
As for the advantages of becoming a member, first of all I want to make it clear that membership is mandatory to be able to practice the profession of social graduate, which in itself would be enough to avoid having to consider that there have to be advantages, but It is true that the advantages exist.
Our members have access to constant recycling courses, they have access to the interpretative criteria of the administrations and they have institutional representation before them.
___How do you see the future of the profession, and what do you think will be the key themes that will mark your work in the next two years?
The future of the profession should be bright, since companies increasingly need more professionals to fulfill their obligations with public administrations, and because labor conflict will always exist, since it is intrinsic to labor relations. And I say “should”, because
I am concerned about the evolution that the social graduate profession is going to follow since it is going to depend on future members, who are the students of the degree in Labor Relations and HR, and these, in their study plans, each There are increasingly fewer materials related to labor law and Social Security and more materials related to human resources, which could be a problem in the future.
___What importance do you give to audiovisual communication, social networks, web pages and these new technologies that flood our current society?Do you think it is a potential source to get new clients?
New technologies and new communication channels are very important for any company, regardless of its size.
We move in a global world, and more importantly, in a virtual world, where the Internet has become a place where any company must be if it wants to exist.
And of course, it is where you will have to go, with increasing intensity, to look for your new clients, because where are the clients.
___We are faced with a recent labor reform, what has this radical change in the types of employment contracts meant for your group? Do you think that the labor reform is appropriate and was necessary? Do you think that the drop in unemployment that we currently have is a consequence of the labor reform?
For the group this reform has meant a change that has required training, as well as uncertainty, since the norm will now require interpretation by the courts, which implies uncertainty until the judicial criteria are established, but it is true that this happens with all the reforms.
As for whether the reform was necessary and appropriate, I think it was necessary, since our hiring system caused very high rates of temporary employment.
A different question is whether this reform is appropriate. In this regard, I believe that it has not been adequate, firstly because it has not been a deep enough reform, and secondly, because, from my point of view, an attempt has been made to lower the temporality of hiring in a somewhat fictitious way, without this translating into stability in employment. As a consequence of this, I do not consider that it will provide solutions to our unemployment levels, but rather that the causes for which workers access unemployment will only change, since what was previously a termination of contract will now be a trial period leave, a dismissal or a failure to call a discontinued worker.
___What is the relationship of social graduates with the Public Administration? And with the mutuals? And with
The relationship of the group with public administrations is good, because we have constant communication channels and because the social graduate is there to help business owners and workers in their obligations, and for this a good relationship with the Administration is necessary.
On the other hand, the relationship with mutual insurance companies is excellent, since we are necessary collaborators in the work of both parties, and historically the relationship has been good and continues to be.
As for Fraternidad-Muprespa, it is also an excellent relationship, since it is an entity that is very close to the social graduate and as I have already said, we help each other mutually.
___The Advisor's Corner is a tool integrated into the Mutual Fund's Digital Office, can you tell us about the advantages that this tool brings to your sector?
In these times of digitalization in the relationships between Administration and administered, The Advisor's Corner is a very useful, intuitive and versatile tool, because it allows us streamline procedures and communication with the Mutual Fund, which benefits both parties.
I think it's a great success.
___What do you think of the Discussion Forum as a tool to share a specific topic with others? advisors?
It is necessary, because professionals need to share our experiences in order to enrich ourselves and improve in our daily work, since the casuistry of our work is so broad that this forum is necessary discussion.
