Natalia Fdez. Laviada participates in an ISSGA conference on the management of generational diversity
"From 'Millenial' to 'Jubillennial', management of generational diversity" is the name of the conference organized by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health of Galicia, ISSGA, with the aim of giving an inclusive approach to the so-called 'jubillennial' generation and providing tools to face a retirement positive, implementing earlier in organizations the management of generational diversity, addressing active aging and the integration of preventive and HR policies linked to each age.
Fraternidad-Muprespa was present since Natalia Fernández Laviada, Deputy Director General of Prevention, Quality and Communication of the Mutua, gave the presentation, focusing on “ the epicenter of all business and labor welfare policies is in the people”, key to which he alluded as the main starting point.
Fernández Laviada began by highlighting that “ when one company has internalized concepts such as diversity, inclusion and equity, we are facing a healthy company where healthy leadership is also exercised” he explained.
He then provided some data on age and employment: as of January 1, 2022, more than nine million people in Spain were over the age of 65, they are a 19,09 % of the entire population. Working after age 63 is uncommon, and after age 66, very exceptional. The employment of people between 64 and 68 years old does not reach 8% while one in three unemployed people is over 50 years old.
In the workplace, it would be optimal, he stated, to adopt measures to speed up continuous learning and rotation, thus preventing workers from being undervalued due to their age. It is also necessary to promote learning at any time in life, make work environments more flexible, create spaces for exchange, so that a model of fruitful intergenerationality is established and promote mentoring, both the classic one, in which the most experienced person shares their knowledge with someone with a junior profile, and the reverse, in which it is the youngest person who helps train the oldest person in the technological field.
“ A company demonstrates that people are its main value” added Fernández Laviada “ when it creates a flexible culture, adaptable to people and markets, attracts and trains leaders who promote creativity and innovation, has adequate systems and processes and takes care of its image and reputation”.
In conclusion, he highlighted the importance of “ See the person, not as a label with their origin, their sexual status or, of course, their age. The 'silver generation' must have a presence in institutions, companies, the media... in society in general. It is a strategic issue in our demographic winter, where the workforce decreases, health and pension pressure on Social Security increases, and there is no generational change for many jobs while ageism is practiced.” he asserted.
