Desktop wallpapers 2015 - International Year of Light

In resolution (A/RES/68/221) the General Assembly designated 2015 «International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies», This resolution has the co-sponsorship of 35 countries, including Spain. Through this decision, the UN recognizes the importance that Light and Light-based Technologies have in the lives of the citizens of the world, in the development of society and in the challenges faced by Humanity. Light plays a fundamental role in our daily lives. It has revolutionized, among other aspects, medicine or the way of manufacturing products and has made the development of the Internet possible.
 

With the approval of the UNESCO Executive Board in November 2012, scientists were invited to submit projects to celebrate the International Year of Light in 2015 at the United Nations General Assembly.

Science and its applications of light create revolutionary technologies that directly improve the quality of life throughout the population, but sometimes their results are not directly seen.

The proclamation of the International Year of Light is an opportunity to coordinate international activities and promote new initiatives in order to promote the revolutionary potential of light technologies.

Light-based technologies have a vital socioeconomic, environmental and cultural role.
